Owosso firefighters and a Shiawassee County dispatcher worked together to rescue a resident trapped on the upper floor of a single-family house fire on February 18.
Crews responded to the house fire on the 1400 block of South Chipman Street and rescued the occupant as the dispatcher coordinated their efforts.
A second person, later found hiding in the basement of the home, was arrested and charged with first-degree arson in connection with the fire, Owosso Public Safety Director Kevin Lenkart told MLive.com.
Four firefighters and one Shiawassee County dispatcher were recognized Monday, March 21, for their actions, according to MLive.
The Owosso Fire Department issued the Citation of Valor to Owosso Fire Lieutenant Matt Nowiski, Owosso Firefighter John McKay, Owosso Township Fire Lieutenant Mike Gute, Owosso Township Firefighter Whitney Ryan and Shiawassee County Dispatcher Kelsey Curtis for their life-saving actions during the fire.
